For almost 50 years of dedication to fixing and repairing people’s other watches, the two decades of his career has been the most meaningful for him.

Because of struggles in life, it took 20 years for Mr.Salva to finish his invention. He began to build the special fan whom he called “Salfan” back in 1996. Salfan came from the first syllable of his surname and the fan is obviously the project. It is described as a tiny electric fan that doesn’t need electricity to work at all. The trick? The mechanism which powered the fan closely resembles a watch.

Although proud of his project and achievement, Ramon admitted that he couldn’t afford to buy the parts needed to improve his invention. He also can’t register for this project in the government.

The distance of his hometown to Manila has been a hindrance for his work to get recognized. On ABS-CBN Sunday magazine show “Rated K”, it was revealed that the money he could use for the fare was often used to feed his family.

Luckily, the show offered help to the inventor to bring the “Salfan” to the office of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Taguig City.

Engr. Janeth Cruzada, Senior Science Research Specialist said that the watchmaker still has plenty to go through in order for his invention to be registered under his own name. The process involves filling forms and disclosure agreements, as well as proof that it is not identical to other inventions around the globe.

Meanwhile, the watchmaker believes that the “Salfan” is the only fan in the world that works without the use of any source of energy.

He said:

“Di ko naman po pinapangarap ang mayaman. Ang gusto ko po, kung anu lang ibibigay sa akin ng Diyos, iyon ang tatanggapin ko. Yun po ang aking pangarap. At makatulong po sa aking mga kapatid at ibang taong mahihirap kung sakaling ibibigay na sa akin ng Diyos iyan.”
