While looking for another passenger, a taxi driver was shocked after he found out a bag that is most likely left by one of his passengers inside his cab.
Tatay Eduardo Matusalem only earned P700 for a night. While driving and look for another passenger, he noticed a bag inside his cab., left by the passenger he had dropped off. He wanted to reach the owner but he has no contact number of the foreigner and doesn’t want to open the bag on his own. The first thing that comes to his mind is to take and turn it over to Raffy Tulfo at TV5’s Aksyon Center.
However, when he arrived at the station, it was closed. So Tatay Eduardo decided to camp out near the TV station and wait for it to open the following day. He didn’t mind not earning for the rest of the night as long as he returns the bag safely to the owner.
It turned out that the owner was a Chinese national Junyi Tao. The Chinese national had reported the matter to the police but was dismayed to learn that the CCTVs in the area were not working at the time. He was frantically looking for the bag and thought that he would not recover it.
The next day, when the TV station opened, Tatay Eduardo was among those first in line to turn over the bag. Little did he know, the bag contained a lot of money. Tulfo’s Aksyon Center was not yet operating in those early hours but he was able to turn over the bag “Solian ng Bayan”, the station’s program for lost and found items.
The bag contained 元240,000 (Yuan), equivalent to Php2,001,766.63. Thankfully, the bag contained IDs that enable the station to contact the owner.
Junyi immediately gave Tatay Eduardo Php10,000 as a reward and also invited him for dinner, including his family.
Tatay Eduardo didn’t expect that he would receive such a big amount of money. He could have kept all that money to himself but the honest taxi driver knew the bag wasn’t his to keep.
